A home study is more than a checklist. It's a written introduction to your family — a thoughtful narrative that helps an agency, attorney, or court see who you are and the home you're offering. As a licensed clinical social worker with twenty-plus years of clinical depth, I bring care, organization, and a steady pace to a process that families remember for the rest of their lives.
What a Home Study Involves
A complete home study brings together personal interviews, an in-person home visit, references, and required clearances into a single agency-ready report. In our work together you can expect:
- Introductory interviews with each adult member of the household
- An in-person home visit at your residence
- Review of background, medical, and statutory clearances
- Contact with three personal references
- A written report formatted to Florida and your placing agency's requirements
The final document tells your story honestly and warmly — and provides the assurances the agency, attorney, or court needs.
Who Needs a Home Study
Florida law and most placing agencies require a current, completed home study for:
- Domestic infant adoption
- International adoption (in coordination with your accredited primary provider)
- Foster-to-adopt placement
- Kinship and stepparent adoption when an updated study is required
I welcome families at every stage of the journey — first-time adoptive parents, families adding through adoption, single-parent adoption, and LGBTQ+ families.
Your Approach and Timeline
The work moves at a steady, transparent pace. I begin with a warm intake call so we can talk through your situation, your placing agency's requirements, and the timeline you're working with.
From there, a typical home study takes six to eight weeks: three to four interviews scheduled at your pace, the home visit, references and clearances gathered in parallel, and the final written report drafted, reviewed, and delivered to your agency or attorney.
You'll always know what the next step is, what's outstanding, and where we are in the process.
Fee
Home study fees are flat-rate and include all interviews, the home visit, the written report, and one round of revisions if your placing agency requests changes. Final fees depend on the type of study and any travel required beyond the Jacksonville–St. Augustine area. We'll discuss specifics during our first call.
How to Begin
A short call is the easiest first step. We'll talk through your timeline, what your placing agency needs, and confirm I'm a good fit for your family.
